The Beautiful South

So. Here I am, in Oxford UK. BOILING by butt off. If it's so damn cold and rainy all the time, why does one little mistake on my part, like bringing six pairs of woolen undies, have to make me suffer so? If it wasn't 95 degrees and baking here today, then I'm a monkey's uncle (oh, yeah, forgot yuh, little rhessie ).

Anyway. I'm here. Yes it's hot (which is probably good news). And I'm ready to drink.

Blaze of Glory

Sadly (particularly for those who are allergic to public transit), Paul and Dave's heroic bicycle shop in downtown Hull, Blazing Saddles, has closed down.

It is not known if this is the result of a disturbing plot, or of the general squishiness about exercise of the Humberside populace.

My name is Derek from the den
I deal in shillings and in pence
I'll get you any deal you like
Ten sweets for a mountain bike you like

Save a Tree

The good folk of Stratford Upon Avon would love to share with you one of the most treasured events of this little hamlet's existence .. the day that Paul and Dave graced their lawns to lay down the heart of Shakespeare Wouldn't Mind with the rest of their beautiful band in tow.

Feel free to take a listen, and share it with a friend. You'll be glad you did.

Everything From A to B

For those of you who were late to the gate, it's probably been quite difficult for you to get your hands on all of those fiddly little singles that the Band puts out, each one containing one or several difficult to find, gem-like B-sides, crying out to be played and played again.

Frankly, I'm not even sure if Napster ever had much of a selection, so my sources indicate you may just have been SOL. To fix that dire problem, how's about you take a gander at the first volume of "The Beautiful B's" a (pirated) collection of missing B-Sides, released by a bloke named "Escape," and now available for download.

If they don't catch your fancy, then I'm a monkey's uncle .. er, aunt .. er. Enjoy.

Rowing and Skulking

The entire Turtle organization will be re-locating to temporary quarters in Oxford, UK for the summer. We have arranged a competitive menu of activities (in between skulking around after band members), we'll be: drinking in pubs, bicycling, rowing on the Thames, travelling about, and looking for people to hang out with.

If you'll be in the area of the home counties this summer, or if you've got a particularly fascinating anything planned, please let us know, we'd love to swap gossip and ale.

Just Checkin?
Soooo sorry. As you may have noticed Delores has been essentially AWOL since the last concert that she saw in Los Angeles in the fall. This was not by design, but purely by laziness. As has happened several times in the history of turtling, work called, stress, life, etc.

Now that I'm totally mortified by how out of date this all is, I'll try to catch up and catch you up (and never let this happen again of course).

Clearly Through the Fog:
(From the LA Show Last Fall)

The rumors are definitely not true. Despite the unfortunate absence of Ms. Jacqui Abbot, the remainder of the band sounded relaxed and ready to go.

After a somewhat slow start to the gig, with Paul laying down several slow tracks in a row, including "Especially for You", they livened up and rocked out. The horns once again kicked much ass, despite the fact that Gaz Birtles apparently didn't even know when they were going to the US until a week before they left the UK (TBS inc. is a smooth machine a lot like Desert Storm). Hamster did yeoman work on "Perfect 10" and "Father and I", shaking his bon-bon and driving the crowd wild. Obviously, Paul blew the doors out fueled on butts and near-beer.

The frenzied crowd had clearly waited far too long for the return of their band to let the Jacqui situation hold them back for too long. Afterwards the band remarked on how great the crowd was, and how pleased they had been by the energy level of their US fans. But everyone was wondering "Where is Krusty Kev, and why don't they let him come to the States?" They are definitely carrying on regardless, and we're having fun. Listers included Leslie Nakagawa, Laura Jack, Keith Dussell, Jeremy Chumley, Tricia, Zack, Eric, Patrick, and the Notorious Nadine.

I'll see you in Los Angeles, come by the bar at HOB at 4:30 or so.

**

Jacqui .. I hope to see you next time, this site is clearly named for my favorite of your songs.
