THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH have announced details of a new double A-side single, 'THE RIVER'/'JUST CHECKIN'', which will be released on December 11 through GO! DISCS.

In addition to the title tracks, the single will feature two brand new songs, 'Valentine's Day Wank' and 'Little Chef' across the formats. 'Just Checkin'' has also been remixed from the original version, which features on their new album 'Painting It Red', by Dave Bascombe, who has worked with other bands including Placebo and Suede.

In other news, a spokesperson for the band has dismissed reports that recently departed vocalist Jacqui Abbott will be replaced by Jo Haddock - a vocalist with tribute band The Beautiful Southmartins.

She said: "Abbott left when the band had shows left to play in America and they did a handful of dates without a replacement. They seem happy as they are - Paul Heaton did songs like 'Rotterdam' on his own and it sounded good. The tour isn't due to start until December 8, but at present there are no plans to replace Jacqui."

The band's UK tour kicks off at the SECC in Glasgow, before calling at:

* Newcastle Arena (9)
* Birmingham NEC (10)
* London Brixton Academy (12-13)
* Sheffield Arena (15)
* Manchester Evening News Arena (17)
* Nottingham Arena (18)
